Orphan Images layer

Can we have a Orphan Images Layer by default in the new software with or without a best guess?

In the worst case, one can use this APP layer to render each image as a PS layer to comp in PS.

Re: Orphan Images layer

Hum. As we do a lot of algorithm to prevent them to be orphan, I've rather propose you something else to let the orphan image in the same group at first.
We can add a button that moves orphan images to a new layer ( you'll need to click it ! ).

Re: Orphan Images layer

Hi Alexandre,

If an image has no CPs (its an orphan) then the only place I've seen APP put it is in the center.  If APP knows to put the image anywhere else on the panorama, its not an orphan.

How about putting the orphans somewhere else?  Like on a ribbon, or in a corner of the pano, etc so that you'll know that there are orphans and that you have to do something with them.

Re: Orphan Images layer

By default, unless you choose to force all images into the pano, then orphans will not be included at all - or am I mistaken?

hankkarl & gerardm: Why is having an orphan layer important to you?

Sometimes clicking "Guess unlinked image location" does a good job on the orphans. I have some ideas on how to make this tool more powerful but I'll wait for the new APP with 'instant' response, perhaps those ideas wont be needed anymore.

Re: Orphan Images layer

Yes, I agree that the "new tools" will help, thats why I posted this with the future.  Right now, my work around with skies is a .pts(panotools) template.  It is a custom widget that converts my pixorb script to a . pts file that places all the images in there "ideal place".  If the sky is on its own layer I can render it and composite the entire layer, moving it, if necessary, to fit in to place.  For me this feature concerns selecting and managing hundreds of pictures.

Re: Orphan Images layer

DrSlony,

Maybe I'm using old info, I haven't had an unlinked picture in a while.  But IIRC, APP doesn't try to guess the position of an unlinked picture unless you tell it to.  If it did (and it should, IMO) than having a layer with the unlinked pictures gives me a quick way to view which images are not linked.

If APP were to automatically guess the position of unlinked pictures, I would want an easy way to find them.  There may be a better way than a seperate layer, like putting a yellow border around unlinked pictures (and around unlinked panos) that may be better.
