CPE: allow to add a link to an image

In control point editor one can add control points but how can one add a link to an image which is not linked to a particular image? I can do this in hugin. ;-) Imagine, APP cannot assemble large panorama between two images somewhere in the panorama had too short overlap. Thus, APP created two panoramas. I can open one of them and import the second panorama into it but APP places the second panorama over the first as a different layer. I can move the images around but cannot increase the width of the panorama to actually accommodate the images form the second panorama in a proper place (that is bug #1). So I wanted to add the control points manually but hey, how can I do that when there is no link between image 5 and 6? Images 1-5 are chained together well, images 6-9 are chained well but link between 5 to 6 was not detected and I cannot figure out how APP can do it (bug #2).

Re: CPE: allow to add a link to an image

By adding control points you are creating a link between images.
..........

When initally sitching choose to force all images into the panorama using the Settings panel.

If you are unable to add CPs between unlinked images using the CP Editor then use the Move images mode to position the image, then switch to CP Editor mode and right-click on the image to create a 'hard link':

Better still shoot the pano correctly in the first place and save yourself the hassle.wink

Re: CPE: allow to add a link to an image

How about using the CP editor, selecting image 5 and image 6, add CP, optimize?

Also, if you want 2 (or any number of) images to be put into a single panorama, just use the "Force every picture to be in the same panorama" option before detection. No need for importing anything, etc.

Re: CPE: allow to add a link to an image

medaivets: the problem is the linux version of 1.4.2 is somehow different. I cannot make it react to the right-click to get the scrollbar as in your screen shot allowing me to set hard links between images. sad

bo: I tried to add control points but none were found to link the two problematic images together.

1) In the end I finally managed to in the Move images mode to manually move the images using mouse. The culprit was how to enlarge the width of the panorama. Luckily I have minimized the Toolbox so I got some space free around the partial panorama. I think a field to set width of the panorama (fov) would the the most intuitive way to tackle with this problem (e.g. -80 to +80 degrees).

2) I think a horizontal scroll-bar would have been helpful which would move all images to the respective side (no need to manually select each image and move all of them by same offset - anyway the yaw value applies to a single image).

3) Also, a ruler bar would have been helpful to get an idea to what position I would like to move a single image by yaw/fov/rol, etc. values. Especially in conjunction with 1).

You have to have the CP Editor selected to do this, it doesn't work in other modes IIRC.

Is this what you mean? If so yoiu can just turn it on via Edit/Settings.

Did you know you can enter Y/P/R values directly in the image data table in Move mode by double-clicking on the values in the table?

Re: CPE: allow to add a link to an image

mediavets: Thank you for the tip, I have grid lines turned on (guess it is default) but I don't see the angular values. Argh. I see, I have to switch from "pixels" to "degrees. If I would have seen the pixel distances at least (is that a BUG?) then I would have maybe thought one can get also the values in degrees .... I vote for having this set on by default. But think of it: if user is supposed to enter values in degrees why is APP showing grid in pixels anyway? Make "degrees" the default value.

Regarding the yaw/fov/rol values ... yes, I saw it once but imagine at least a novice user would think: shift all images by -90 degrees. Doing that per every image in the table is awkward and also clicking on all images in the panorama and then moving them with the mouse seems a sloppy way to do it. I rather picked up a new "central point" somewhere near the place I wanted to have in the middle of the scene but what if a user really spent a long time getting correct the fov/rol values. Then one would not like to use the mouse to define new yaw and by this approach change also fov/rol.

Finally I figured out the trick: I have to have opened Control points editor and only during that time in the Edit window I can force the Hard links to surrounding images by the mouse right-click. Damn. Of course then getting the Local geometry analysis, Optimizing control points, Optimizing panorama ... it was all then simple and rather simple but why do I have to have running the Control points editor window? I am just used to close windows I do not need. I think this is very counter-intuitive, really. Why doesn't the right-click allow me to add Hard links to images and does not open the Control points editor on my behalf at least?

"switch" ... maybe it is my bad English but could it be emphasized that the CP Editor window has to be opened? Anyway, if the right-click action is unused in Move images mode why couldn't it be assigned to allow to Hard link images and open CP Editor automagically?
