Re: Neiges

The simple color pallet makes these images look awesome! And you have my favorite blue sky color! The overexposed parts especially in the first pano add to the image instead of taking away... I would like to see a non-overexposed version, but I doubt it would look better. The sun bursting over the mountain top makes it look... divine! ;]

I would love to agree with you DrSlony, but I find the second picture more equilibrated… Even if I like flashy picts on the web, I find that nuances can be made in hight-tones, mid-tone or dark tones areas could be a little bit nuanced…
I think, it's IMHO that actual screens are very much brighter and contrasted than older CRT ones… we are working a bit like on we were with old 35 mm slides… the difference is that actual computer screens are not respecting the optimized ratio of our old carousel slide shows …
The contrast ratio was from 1 to 1000… This is not anymore the case…
We have to reduce over contrasted pictures… and APP is quite good for making very low contrast files… Its quite easy to increase contrast in PS than to-reduce it !!!
Just an opinion of course roll

I'd love to open and retouch the first picture and try to re-balance it… but i need approbation of mountaintb… Very few users seems to disagree or hate that there picture are modified by other users… I'll wait then wink
Even if I fell that other people can get new and different from those corrections…
I don't want to be doing this without mountaintb's approval, as he is the author…
Even if that here on the forum we only concern members… Not private web sites…

Re: Neiges

More and more I am looking for back light, the sun right in front, I always under expose my images from 2/3 to 2 stops, it depends the contrast. I have two 24 inches sreens calibrated with ColorMunki, I just changed them during summer, before I had 2 21 inches CRT Sony, On the LCD I put the light very low, sort of 18%, to try to be OK, most of my images are printed, so I need to be OK with them.
As I allready said I don't like the CS3 command "tons foncés, tons clairs", I much prefer the Dlighting from NX2 on raw images.

Love the first one, great detail and contrast! Looks a bit like computer game / in-game graphics! Amazingly clear atmosphere...

Bonjour Mountainb,

Re: Neiges

Hello,

If I can add my humble opinion . . . I think these are wonderfully exposed photos (beautiful compositions too). Regarding supposed overexposure in the first image, . . . except for POSSIBLY some very small parts of snow in the bottom right corner, the photo looks perfectly exposed. On my monitor, the clouds are delicate and light, but most importantly, not blown out.

Since all our monitors are not calibrated to eachother, I imagine we all see things differently. So critiquing images based on clolour or contrast, can sometimes be an exercise in futility.

With that stated, I would like to agree with Slony, the natural colours captured are very pleasing. At least on my monitor . . .    roll

Re: Neiges

Simple curiosity: how many people, here, are using firefox 3, with full color management enabled, and correctly configured (monitor profile)?

I absolutely agree…
I had the same feeling until I saw that tutorial made by mark Galer…
http://web.mac.com/essentialskills/iWeb … 796A9.html
Then I understood how to use this filter properly… First in modifying the default options…
You should have a look at this filter more closely…
Then it'll become very easy to use… IMHO… smile

Sorry to show you how the result that can be increased in 1 minute, I have only tried to give a little more details in the sky… not touch anything else roll

Re: Neiges

Yeah like everything in Firefox hmm
I don't get it, making those things is the difficult part, but making a simple interface to set them up is the easiest part, and Firefox is already damn old and it still lucks some basic configuration tools... FINALLY in FF3 they implemented a mime-type action config panel, it should have been there ages ago! And there are still things missing, things you'd expect to be there years ago.

ps. unfortunately for me, the current FF3 works like crap in KDE4.1/nvidia so I'm using the latest FF2 for now.

Re: Neiges

What's complicated in a simple plugin? Main problem - huge performance hit, especially when switching (alt+tab) to FF from another application. At least under XPsp2.
