Anyone tried Microsoft ICE? http://research.microsoft.com/ivm/ice.html
Aloha Hankkarl,
I tried it; it is very fast, but can't handle large panoramas that aren't displayed on the OUTSIDE of a sphere. Also, before registering, I read the small print first. By using the software, you basically give MS a free ride to use your image as they see fit. No thanks.

I've tried it too. Simple sticher with good algorithms. Seems to do a pretty good job as long as there are no problems. Virtually no facilities for fine tuning, and none for 'fixing' a problem pano. Very good value as it's free! It's marked 'Not for commercial use' and clearly is not suitable for serious panorama makers.

I agree, it's a good free product. The guy behind ( Matt Uyttendaele ) is a really smart and friendly.

The license agreement (MSR-LA) is worth reading!
It looks like some sort of one-way GPL (GNU General Public License) where the dissymmetry is somewhat questionable. That being said, I don't know whether ICE is distributed in binary format only which is not modifiable nor decompilable by users - no problem there - or includes source code which is submitted to the following rules:

That license isn't bad. It alows you to use the source code and make changes to it. That paragraph doesn't say you have to give the changes back to microsoft, but if they get the changes, they can use them, add them to the code, etc. In fact, you still hold copyright to them, for what its worth.
I read it as more saying "if you make a bug fix we like, we can use it". If you make substantial additions to the software and want to make money off of them, then you have to do a lot of research to figure out how to keep your work.
It allows MS to include the changes if they are planning a paid version, or if they are planning to include this with their photo-editing software, or as part of the OS, or otherwise include it with a sold product.
This is different than the GPL, but has the advantage that one group can take responsibility for the code, (and hopefully test it well). And MS did supply the main body of code. If you don't agree to the terms, you can use one of the many free alternatives out there, most based on panotools (IIRC)

It seems that Gerard Maynard used Deep Zoom Composer, it's written in his link…

It has a mode that seems to offer stitching of orthogonal panos:
Planar Motion 3: allow for full perspective distortion between the images. This is useful for stitching images of a large flat surface, for example a white-board. As long as the object being photographed is flat you don't need to rotate about a fixed point like most panoramic shots and can move to capture different shots of the flat scene.

I used the photoshop plugin. http://research.microsoft.com/ivm/HDVie … Plugin.htm
It was just my naming convention since I have a variety of formats. I spent a week or two testing the bandwidth for appropriate compression.

Thanks Gerard for the answer… I was looking for that link since few days…
The only thing I regret is that the Mac plugin is not yet available (even in beta).
I have read that it was on it's way, but didn't find the beta link… Maybe it's not public yet…
I'm not worried about the percentage of installed versions of zoomify, because so many people doesn't even know what is a panorama, whatever it looks like…
The major audience is still missing…
This seems to be what we have observed in France when the word 'Multimedia' was first introduced…
The before and after being advertised made the whole situation upside-down in terms of buzz… not in term of understanding what it was of course… Like always ![]()
We need to be prepared for the eventual revolving of the situation

Maybe Alexandre can add another option to GigaTiler for HDView SL. We can post the .xap file and a template .html and .xml. It's pretty straight forward, even for me. I was a mac only person for years. When I started to develop my own tools, I had to get a windows machine because my friend who help develop the tools knew c+. Now I use the Vista x64 on a Mac Pro and only boot into OSX to update the machine.
I agree with your points on audience. Who knows where all this will end up. But, it is exciting to push it places.
