I was on the ferris wheel to take a couple of shots of the sunset and the fair. The guy that got on with me was afraid of heights and didn't like me crawling around taking pics because it made the bucket tip and rock a bit . I don't know why someone that is afraid of heights would get on a ferris wheel. the second shot is tipped a bit , I was trying to hurry while the wheel was stopped .

This is a good series, sandpan… Maybe it was a bit like Disney land/world ![]()

I don't think I have ever seen clouds like that, do you know what they're called and why they are formed like that?
I love extreme and strange weather, there is a lot of that in South Africa, but it happens very seldom now here in Poland. When I go back there some day I will be sure to have my gear with me ![]()
A very common sight when traveling between Secunda and Johannesburg were "dust devils", there were a lot of them around 1990, and for some reason less closer to 2000... or at least I just saw less of them. Anyway a pano of those would be really interesting. Secunda is a town of about 40 000 inhabitants and was constructed in 1980 to house the workers of Sasol 2 and Sasol 3, huge complexes that process coal into a wide range of products, especially fuel. Here on Google Maps you can see Secunda at the top, and Sasol 2 and 3 at the bottom.
Either it is Secunda's geographical situation, or the two Sasol complexes, that caused weather in and around the town to be different. e.g. thunderstorms were very frequent and quite violent, sand storms happened several times, and sudden weather changes took place. One of the best sights I remember was literally a wall of very menacing clouds moving rapidly towards me while I was at a scarp yard. Streets turned to rivers in minutes, possibly 'a' minute. All great stuff for the photographer :]
I didn't find the types of clouds you posted while googling for "funnel clouds", but I did find these very interesting shots:

I couldn't tell you what kind of clouds those are as I have never seen anything like them before. It was a very nice day and everywhere you looked you could see those goofy funnel clouds . That last post is about the most menacing cloud I have ever seen. I would have loved to have seen that and got some panos of it .

What i find very interesting is the sudden nuance you make in this detail of sky instead of the big wheel and the fair atmosphere view ![]()

I don't know why but i find interesting skies just about as interesting as some of the subjects that I like to photograph ,especially if they are a bit out of the ordinary . I have always looked at clouds and tried to see or imagine objects in the cloud shapes,....call me a dreamer I guess. If you really look at demons in the sky post , you will see them , that was an unbelievable day.

In the UK, we have http://cloudappreciationsociety.org/.
They have an enquiry service for those who can't work out what type of clouds they have photographed.
