Re: Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Yeah, I'll be getting one to complement (and probably retire) my current 5D...

Re: Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Hi Bo,

Do you think there's that much difference?  I'm planning on investing any "spare" money into "L" Glass and waiting for either the 5DMIII or the 1DMIV

My biggest issue is that the AF points are not changed.  And you get two more f-stops.  So you can take pictures in the dark, but how do you focus?

On the other hand, the 1080p at 30fps video feature is very interesting.

It would have been nice if the 5DMII had better bracketing (up to 2 stops per step, as many steps as RAW images in a burst, AFIK 14) and if the mirror would lockup when you press the shutter button for a burst, so you would take the bracketed shots without slapping the mirror, and as fast as the CCD allows (eg 30fps if you have enough light.)

Or even better, an AAEB feature (auto-auto esposure bracket) where the camera uses aperture priority and brackets in xx stop increments up and down until the brightest pixel isn't blown and the darkest pixel is at half bright (gets the dark images out of the noisy range of the sensor.)  Again, no mirror motion between shots.   And the DIGIC chip could do HDR to give an HDR file.

Re: Canon EOS 5D Mark II

I agree, hankkarl, with auto-bracketing, HDR and so. But it seems that we will have to ay another decade for that sad
And I really doubt Canon will update the firmware to add such features; they want us to buy a MarkIII, a MarkIV and so...

Re: Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Well... to each his own.

I don't shoot as professionally as most of you guys. I've never had a problem with AF points, and I seldom use bracketing. No shots in the dark - mostly landscapes, some interiors. I don't own expensive lens (some Sigma EX) and I don't plan on investing in such for now.

The new sensor/processor combo is enough for me, along with the sensor cleaning, which, currently, is a huge pain in the rear.

That being said, I'm not made of money and I'm considering a 5DMkII only because I've found another use for my trusted 5D.

Re: Canon EOS 5D Mark II

I am going to be gathering my pennies and dimes and sell my video camera to get this smile  I do not own a full frame camera yet and I need it to stay competitive.  I almost always use manual focus anyway.

Hi Bo,

The pros can afford to have both a 1DIII and a 1DsIII, so they don't have a problem. :-)

Its when I try to use my 5D for sports or action photography that I want a bigger buffer and more/better AF points.

i had 5d mk2 in my hands last week(preproduction- one of five bodies in europe) and saw samples(snowy/rainy day) printing on new noritsu qss-37hd(640dpi)-printer. fantastic. btw: the same videochip is implemented in sx1 IS(sx100 IS).

Re: Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Do anybody shoot interiors with a mamiya RZ67 and 37mm lens (NN5). How well does it work?

Re: Canon EOS 5D Mark II

30fps is most likely taken of the CCD as part of the Live View on the screen, rather than the shutter.

Re: Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Tim.Lewis I assume the shutter stays open all the time while shooting, otherwise constantly clucking away 30 times a second would lead to quick hardware wear and tear. The sample photos and videos are amazing!
